Words for Her

I wrote this poem on my first day clean, my girlfriend at the time had asked if a poem had been written for her, I came up with this one. It is the second one I had written about her and the beginning of a saga of poems. Relationships bring my strong emotions out, not something that I can handle well in early recovery. Everything happens for a reason, I believe, maybe I forsaw the future. Life is no playground for the faint of heart.
Words for Her
She asked for verse and stanza
She cried for rhythm and rhyme
My heart was crushed to pieces
For now she's not even mine
I imagine us together
A moment stopped in time
Our souls, our hearts, together
Bodies one, entwined
I now share a bed with no-one
A product of my fears
Holding on to memories
My pillow full of tears
